Applications are now open for the next class of producers, journalists, and storymakers to join AIR at the 2018 Third Coast Conference in Chicago, October 4-6, 2018.

Every year, New Voices scholars bring diverse ideas, insights, and experiences from across America to challenge how public media is conceptualized, produced, and delivered. AIR’s commitment to cultivating vibrant talent in the industry has led to a far-reaching—and still growing—network of 175 New Voices alumni. Now's your time to join them.

We seek: Daring makers from all corners of the country, especially individuals from underrepresented communities and groups.

If chosen, you receive: A travel stipend up to $1,500 to attend the 2018 Third Coast Conference, a complimentary one-year AIR membership, and special opportunities and support at the conference.

We at AIR are searching for talented storytellers for our Summer 2018 class at AIR’s Full Spectrum Storytelling Intensive with UnionDocs.

Over the course of one week, Full Spectrum will expand your definition of what multimedia can be, while imparting concrete skills to add to your producer tool kit. Lead producer Emanuele Berry from Gimlet Media will lead an interdisciplinary group of accomplished specialists to take you on a journey from storytelling to interactive design to composing—and beyond. Our line-up includes instructors from RadioLab, The New York Times, This American Life, WNYC, and more.

We are looking for producers and story-first technologists from all walks of the media industry and beyond who have demonstrable skills in digital sound gathering, editing and mixing and are dedicated to pushing the boundaries to make great storytelling media.

KALW is calling for applicants for our nine-month radio journalism training program based at KALW public radio, an NPR and BBC affiliate station in San Francisco. This program is designed to give you a professional audio production and journalism education, tuition-free. 


Participants are asked to make a 20 hour a week commitment to the program from September 2018 to June 2019, including one eight-hour shift per week at our studios. Participants will also be required to attend a Wednesday evening class from 6:30-9pm weekly from September-December, and then occur once per month through the end of the program in June.


We’re looking for creative thinkers who are great writers and storytellers, or budding audio engineers, with a passion for covering diverse communities and some knowledge of the Bay Area. Some experience with audio production and/or journalism is preferred. Slick dance moves appreciated, but not required. This is an unpaid fellowship opportunity. 

Audio Academy participants will be trained to produce feature reports for KALW’s award-winning daily news program Crosscurrents. Your voice and your work will be broadcast on KALW during your time in the Audio Academy.
